How Is Your Fitness Goal Attitude?

There are different mentalities people have about their fitness goal attitude, and how they should go about executing and accomplishing these goals; such as weight loss resolution, body transformation, and other similar health and fitness targets.

If I may, I will categorize them in three different groups. See how each one carries it out, and whether each one accomplishes any of their missions.

Fitness Goal Attitude -Group One-

"Just Do It And Things Will Happen"

Oh boy, this group has an attitude similar to “Rambo’s Attitude” and it goes something like this:

“Just start exercising, and your fitness goal will come to you; also, follow your gut and you’ll be fine.”

Many people have this mentality and see no need to educate themselves, but learn through trial and error. But if they happened to stumble on to some information about weight training they reason they can try that too; and see how they are progressing toward their weight loss resolution, for example.

During my earlier years of weight training experience I used to work out with my college friends where we used to go down to the campus gym and just lift weights until we get “nice pump,” and then we would call it a day.

We relied on our memory to remember what body part we trained three days ago and then we would train the next body part. We also followed some famous bodybuilding magazine workouts because we thought as long you are training then you will get results.

And as a weight training novice you do usually gain some muscles in the beginning. Just showing up at the gym, you will gain some muscles if you’re just starting to do weightlifting.

But things came to end sooner than later. After a few months our progress diminished, and not only that, we got over trained from following those long 2-hour long workouts that we copied indiscriminately from those bodybuilding magazines.

It took me many more months to realize that the philosophy of “Just Do It and Things Will Happen” is not the best way to exercise and to accomplish my fitness goal of body transformation.

Fitness Goal Attitude -Group Two-

"The Skeptics And Their Quest Of Never Ending Information"

This group is very interesting about their attitude and how they will reach their weight loss resolution or goal by their example. First of all, many of them are out of shape; nevertheless, they insist on searching for the best information.

Meanwhile, they are saving their energy by not exercising hard enough until they discover the magical formula. Eeeeverything has to be calculated and scientifically proved; otherwise, they are not investing their time wisely!

Don’t get me wrong about science, I love science and believe in it strongly.

But there are many things in life which can not wait for a scientific proof which include…

- Can’t stay still, waiting for science studies to confirm a certain point or theory

- Many science studies can be biased to achieve certain objectives whether monetary or just “can’t let go of my theory” attitude

- Many science studies can be conducted in a way that do NOT correspond to real life experience

- Also, many science studies can be done wrongly or misinterpreted to serve a specific purpose

So, while science is very important and should never be overlooked, at the same time you should not hold your breath or sit on your buttocks waiting until the day comes with science studies telling you that you can lose weight now while watching TV standing rather sitting!?

Another issue with the many skeptics is they don’t give the exercises, nutritional plan, and other fitness and health strategies enough time to see the desired results. If they are following the plan, but not fully, then they wonder about the sub par end result!

Fitness Goal Attitude -Group Three-

"Learn As You Go"-

I have to say, this group is my favorite, and I follow the same path as they do. I hope it will be your favorite group, and you will have a similar approach to your fitness goals, too.

Group Three and Group One start on the same path as they begin to exercise, but after few months of getting some good results from working out, then the progress stops, or comes to a minimal plateau at best.

At this point the two groups begin to take different paths according to their fitness goal attitudes and approach. Group Three will become more interested in reading more. They may read some articles on bodybuilding in Women's Fitness magazines at first, and hope for the best.

But they keep reading and reading and by going up the ladder of reading they gather and learn more of fitness and exercise quality information; such as a specific scientific exercise, and reading advanced nutritional books, or by becoming members of scientific online journals, and so on.

At the same time they are not sitting still waiting to uncover the best way to follow a specific diet in order to achieve their weight loss resolution or have a successful body transformation.

However, they are implementing what they have learned all that time, and what is more, they are becoming creative and are trying new things they didn’t read. But they are following their human judgment, and they are applying their experience as well.

But the bottom line is this: are you are following a scientifically based training method, or your favorite strength coach’s techniques; finally, are you getting satisfactory results or not?

f you are getting results, then keep doing it; and if you are not getting any good results, then change your diet or exercise program until you get what you have been working for.

Final Word

Don’t be bound waiting for only scientific studies telling you what your next workout should be like. But also follow your human wisdom, inventiveness, and people’s resourcefulness from their real-life experiences.

Having an open mind to different information avenues, working out hard, and being consistent will make you ahead of game.
