Not too long ago, the cheese by-product whey was fed to pigs and other livestock because it was thought by the milk industry to have minimal nutritional value, but not to our ancestors who valued whey as a healing and energetic natural drink in many ways. Then the scientific research came along and proved the modern industry wrong and our ancestors who used their wisdom right.



And commercial use of whey to make protein boomed in a big time not only in the fitness and bodybuilding world but also in the baby food and regular consuming manufacturing business which in comparison counts more than the fitness industry.

The protein in whey is more soluble than casein and also has a higher biological value (BV) than its older brother the casein protein. This is due to its relatively faster rate of digestion and absorption rate when it is most needed after your resistance workout to feed your hungry muscles.

This leads to better anabolic response for replenishing your muscles with all the essential amino acids which are the building blocks of protein. And that puts whey on the top of the list for muscle gain protein supplement more than other types of proteins.



So it is a good idea to drink protein supplement derived from whey after your workout to increase a positive nitrogen level in your body to help gain muscle tissue as much as possible. Therefore, it is probably safe to say that whey protein is suited best for gaining muscle tissue rather than preventing muscle loss, unless you keep drinking it every few hours.



I don’t think many trainees find this convenient! One last point, mixing your whey drink with fresh juice to make the transport even faster to your muscle tissues is better than drinking it only with water.

As we all know, working out generates a high level of free radicals and causes an oxidative effect which in turn leads to muscular fatigue and other unwanted body stress. Also, the protein in whey is known for its beneficial properties of enhancing the immune system and other health benefits which brings us to the next important point…

To reduce muscle fatigue, the body produces a crucial cellular antioxidant, called, glutathione whose biosynthesis is dependent on an amino acid called cysteine (NAC) which is found in protein drink of whey. There are many other benefits of whey protein besides gaining muscles which will lead to a firm body, and this is beyond the scope of this article.

Feeding your body with protein derived of whey or others is something you should be conscious about for the sake of benefiting your muscles and your health in general.

The way to go is to find a quality protein that is minimally processed because of the its naturally fragile protein.


So, find a good protein company which uses a low temperature to prevent denatured protein and has no harsh chemicals and artificial ingredients that are questionable to your health. Consuming a protein supplement of whey that can be hard to digest and cause bloating is not a good sign.

So, do your job in searching for a good product and then read the label of ingredients to make sure nothing in it is questionable.
